Google's Knol Launches: will professors contribute?

I thought some folks here might be interested in the launch of Google's online encyclopedia, Knol, which became publicly available yesterday, July 23: knol.google.com. This is not a topic that relates to web development per se, but it is an important event for web culture at universities. After so much complaining, often vociferously, about wikipedia, will university faculty step up to the plate and contribute to Knol? I keep waiting for universities to embra… Continue

Three Bears and their Cells

The story of the Three Bears is one of the stories we read in my Myth-Folklore class, so of course I loved this version of the story with a technology twist! :-)

Yes, I suppose they could "email all friends" about setting up study group, online chat, or with a question. We'll see if they use it!

Friend requests: I hate to admit it, but I avoided myspace, facebook, and everything else because it was "too popular" (some "stick with the minority" complex I have). So, I haven't had to deal with friend requests; I'm not sure how this would be useful to us or our students in Ning....any ideas?

Laura, that would be great if we could talk about your class ning sometime soon. I think the other instructor of Biol1003 and I (online course) will be using it instead of blogger/bloglines as well (final decision on tuesday). I've played with it some, but would love to see and hear your tricks/expertise!

We're having company on the 4th. Not getting out of here until the 20th when we'll be going to the D2L conference in Memphis and then on to Mobile to the beach with relatives. I'm ready to go! Tell Andy & the new queen of your castle (the cat!) hello and happy 4th!

Hey Laura, thanks so much for telling us about ning! I can't wait to look around here some more, and see how the interaction goes. It looks like it has great potential. Thanks for continually injecting my life with new humane technologies!

Sure, we have some new members slowly trickling in. I think we could have some really interesting interaction here.
